Early Life

Faouzia Ouihya was born on July 5th, 2000, in Casablanca, Morocco, and holds dual nationality including Canadian and Moroccan. When she was 5 years old her family emigrated from Morocco to Canada.

The family briefly resided in Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba, before eventually settling in Carman, Manitoba. Faouzia grew up along with her two sisters. Her older sister Samia is currently working as Faouzia’s manager and her second sister Kenza is pursuing a career as a photographer.

Faouzia discovered her passion for music at the age of four after watching her elder sister, Samia who used to play the piano from early on. At the age of 6, Faouzia started playing piano along with violin and guitar. In terms of education, she graduated from high school in 2018. Later she began studying computer engineering at the University of Manitoba.

Career

Faouzia started her music career by posting covers for popular songs as well as her original music on YouTube. She came to the limelight at the age of 15 when she received the ‘Song of the Year award, Audience Award, and Grand Prix at the La Chicane Éléctrique in 2015.

Soon, her music caught the attention of Paradigm Talent Agency with whom she signed a contract. In November 2015, Faouzia released her debut song, “Knock on My Door.” Later in 2017, she teamed up with fellow singer, Matt Epp to release his “The Sound.”

In August 2018, David Guetta dropped his studio album, “7” for which Faouzia worked as a featured artist for the album’s hit single, “Battle.” Next year, she was featured in the song, “Money” which was included in rapper Ninho’s studio album “Destin.”

Breakthrough

In 2020, Kelly Clarkson invited her to make the Moroccan Arabic version of Kelly’s single, “I Dare You.” Faouzia released that track in April of that year and then was featured in Swedish EDM duo Galantis’ track, “I Fly” a month later.

In August 2020, Faouzia’s first EP, “Stripped” came out which contains 6 stripped tracks. The songs from the EP were already released earlier that year. She headed a concert at the Burton Cummings Theatre to promote the extended play.
