Early Life
Victor Ma was born on March 20th, 1996, in New York City, to parents Ma Qingyun and Li Shouning. Victor was just 4 years old when he and his family relocated to Shanghai. While living in this new place, he attended Shanghai Pinghe School.
At the age of 13, Victor decided to enroll at the Los Angeles County High School, so he moved to LA. Upon his high school graduation, he went to study at the University of Southern California where he participated in several music competitions.
While growing up, music was always in his blood and Victor discovered his passion for singing from an early age. He eventually got an opportunity to perform at the 2014 Water Cube Cup Chinese Music Contest For Overseas Chinese Youth from where he took home the bronze trophy.
Career
Victor started his professional singing career by participating in the Tencent talent show The Coming One in June 2017. He wound up winning second place in the competition show in September of that year.
Later that year, he teamed up with other finalists to embark on a show tour called The Coming One Tour which was held in Nanjing, China. He also collaborated with fellow singer Vin Zhou to release the song Halo, It’s Me in December 2017.
Before dropping his solo debut single I Am Awake, Victor released his live album Author in December 2017. The following year, he and actress Jiang Shuying recorded the song The Next Love for the Chinese TV series Mr. Right. His next single Micro World was the opening song for the 2018 series Only Side by Side with You.
Breakthrough
In 2018, Victor Ma became a household name in the Chinese music scene by releasing numerous songs including Domination, So What, and many more. That year, he participated in two reality shows Chao Yin Zhan Ji and Beauty.
In September 2019, Victor eventually released his first extended play titled Untitled. That same month, he was invited by Chinese singer Tia Ray to appear in his single Complicated. From there, Victor began focussing to build his acting career.
He made his web series debut in the 2019 Generational Gravity in which he sang the ending song I Don’t Believe You. In 2020, Victor got a chance to record the song You’re All I Need with American actress Emma Dumont for the TV series Wait in Beijing.
