Early Life
Alexander Eli Morand was born on August 6th, 1997 in Montreal, Canada. Growing up, French was his first language, but he didn’t live in Quebec for long before moving to Toronto, Ontario at the age of 3 years old.
Smiley has raised in a family of both Mexican and Haitian descent on the streets of Pelham Park. His parents Juana and Edie did what they could to keep their son away from drugs. His mother worked as a cashier at a local restaurant alongside running a cleaning business on the side.
Smiley’s father headed to the outskirts of town each day as a lumberjack, cutting down trees. Unfortunately, his dad left the family when he was just 5 years old which is why his relationship with him was never all that good.
Since then, Smiley was raised by his single mother alongside siblings Levi, Ahjalla, Vanessa, and Yohan. He spent most of his early days inside the home playing video games such as Call of Duty.
Career
Before launching his music career, Smiley did a bunch of odd jobs including working as a paper delivery boy while studying in high school. Around that time he also had a passion for video games and of course rap music.
After attending a French Immersion School during his early years, he transferred to the Oakwood Collegiate Institute for his final year of high school. There he discovered music from the likes of Lil Wayne and 50 Cent.
