Early Life
Normani Kordei Hamilton was born on May 31st, 1996, in Atlanta, Georgia to parents Derrick and Andrea Hamilton. Normani has previously revealed that her mother was diagnosed with cancer when she was 6 years old, luckily her mom made a full recovery.
She has two older half-sisters named Arielle and Ashlee Hamilton. The family didn’t stay in Atlanta for long, Normani spent her early years in New Orleans, Louisiana. There she attended Trinity Episcopal School where she enrolled in dance gymnastics, and beauty pageants as a child.
Normani was a natural performer and all seemed to going well until Hurricane Katrina. Her family home sustained a lot of wind damage and was no longer liveable. In 2005, the family was forced to return to Pearland. In terms of education, she attended the school for about sixth grade and later was homeschooled.
Career
Normani started singing gospel and recorded her first single at the age of 13. In 2012, she was crowned Miss Teen Clearlake and finished sixth in Miss Teen Texas at the age of 18. She also got 1st place all around fitness.
This was around the same time Normani auditioned for the 2nd season of the reality show “The X Factor”. She performed “Chain of Fools” by Aretha Franklin. She managed to impress all four judges and made the move to boot camp and then was eliminated.
