Early Life
Jonathan Resto Quiñones was born on May 20th, 1991, in San Juan, the Capital of Puerto Rico. Despite being born in a humble house, Jon’s family has always supported his love for music.
His father is a drummer and taught him to play the drums and other instruments. Jon’s mother Nancy used to sing in church and he continued with his parents to play drums and sing in the church choir too.
Jon has two older sisters and a younger brother. At the age of 14, Jon discovered his passion for music. Before launching his career Jon did a handful of odd jobs including in software, as a security guard, in construction, and in other fast food chains to help his family around the age of 17.
Career
He started writing songs and then created a duo called J-Tonez and Jon Z in 2011. At this time he needed a stage name so he used the first letters of his name Jonathan in conjunction with the pronunciation of the last syllables of his mother which is Nancy and that is why it’s Jon Z.
J-Tonez and Jon Z dropped their first track “Nunca te veo” followed by more singles like “El dinero me llama” and “Háblame de dinero”.
In January 2014, Jon made his first freestyle video and uploaded it on his YouTube channel named JonzTV. After that, he released a weekly freestyle on the Facebook page “Freestyle Mania”. From there he began to make himself known more strongly.
Breakthrough
Jon Z released his album “The Game is about to Change” in November 2015. The album had eight tracks some of which are Nasty and My Life. Jon Z had a big break when he dropped the song 0 Sentimientos which pulled over 440 million views on YouTube.
