Early Life

Ashley Modurotolu Banjo was born on October 4th, 1988 in Leytonstone, London, England. He grew up along with his younger siblings, a brother Jordan and a sister Talisa Banjo, in Wickford.

His father Funso Banjo was a heavyweight boxer and his mother Danielle was a Ballet dancer. In terms of education, Ashley attended St Johns School in Billericay. Upon his graduation, he went to SEEVIC College.

He later attended Queen Mary, University of London, to study physics and biology. Around that time Ashley was passionate about pursuing his dreams of dancing. So he took a break from the University after attending his first two years.

Career

In 2007 Ashley and his brother Jordan teamed up with other nine friends to form the dance crew “Swift Moves.” The name of the group was later changed to Diversity. Before entering Britain’s Got Talent, they won the 2007s Street Dance Weekend competition.

In 2009 Ashley participated in the third series of “Britain’s Got Talent” with his troupe Diversity. Their performances were positively praised by all the judges throughout the contest.

Luckily they won Britain’s Got Talent’s third season. The Diversity wound up winning the show by receiving £100,000. After winning the show, Diversity got a chance to perform in front of Queen Elizabeth at the Royal Variety Show in December 2009.

Breakthrough

In 2010 Diversity was at its peak and they went on a holiday tour, performing in various live shows. However, Banjo was not able to perform at the end of their holiday tour due to his injury.

In early 2012 Sky1 started the documentary reality series “Ashley Banjo’s Secret Street Crew,” in which he is featured since then. He also served as a judge on the reality TV show “Got to Dance” where his crew made regular guest appearances every season.

Diversity went on tours throughout 2013 including their Christmas and Limitless tour which was choreographed by Ashley. In 2016 he was the co-host of “Can’t Touch This,” a BBC One’s Saturday night show in which he appeared with Zoë Ball.

Two years later Ashley began appearing on the reality show “Dancing on Ice.” On this show, he joined the Olympic ice dance gold medallists including Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, and John Barrowman.
