Buteau became a stand-up comedian, performing at shows from 2001 to 2006. Later, she caught the attention of Comedy Central and made her first television spot. In 2011, she was seen in an episode of the NBC’s sitcom Whitney.
From there, she continued appearing as a guest in episodes of TV shows such as Key and Peele and China, IL. In 2014, Buteau landed the recurring role of Private Tanisha Robinson in the Fox sitcom called Enlisted.
