Tyron Kaymone Frampton was born on December 18th, 1994, in Northampton, England. As a kid, he grew up in a community housing project known as Spring Boroughs. Frampton was raised by a Barbadian descent mother who had him at 16.
His family moved to another housing center called Ling’s estate where Frampton’s half-brother Michael was born with muscular dystrophy. When he was just 8 years old his half-brother Michael passed away just days after turning a year old.
At the age of 13, Frampton moved away from Lings along with his mother and sister because his stepdad’s behavior continued to spiral out of control. By the time was a teenager he was bored with school so he started doing the kind of stuff that he shouldn’t bring in some money.
This lasted for a little bit until his mother forced him to focus on his studies. After graduating from high school Frampton went on to study music at Northampton College in 2011. During college, he met indie kids for the first time.
Career
Soon after this, he went to London to find himself airplay on radio stations like Rinse FM but they didn’t give him the time of day. So he self-released an EP titled “Better Less Usual” and took to calling himself Slowthai because that was his nickname as a kid and the fact he spoke always slow.
However, nobody was willing to listen to him yet. So he began working in construction and then at a clothing shop called Next. After being fired from the clothing shop, Slowthai took his passion for music more seriously.
He downloaded a copy of FL Studio to create his own singles and mixtapes. In 2016 Slowthai recorded the song “Jiggie” on SoundCloud which caught the attention of a few folks in the music industry.
Breakthrough
In 2017, he partnered up with indie record label “Bone Soda” to release his EP “Slow It Down” and “I Wish I Knew.” The latter of which included his breakthrough single “T n Biscuits,” a song he wrote on a park bench directly after getting fired from Next Shop.
He released his debut studio album “Nothing Great About Britain” in 2019. That album charted all the way to number 9 on the official charts the week of its release. A whole bunch of accolades followed including being named to the BBC Sound of 2019 list. He even found himself nominated for “Mercury Music Prize.”
During the pandemic, Slowthai created his second album “Tyron” an ambitious album that spans his entire range of emotions. In September 2020, his track “Feel Away” came out. From that point on he continued to drop more tracks like “Thoughts”, “Cancelled”, and “Mazza”.
In February 2021, Slowthai eventually released his second album, “Tyron” and the guest appearances came from the likes of Denzel Curry, A$AP Rocky, Dominic Fike, Skepta, and James Blake. Slowthai dropped his third album “Ugly” also known as “U Gotta Love Yourself” in March 2023.
Other Ventures

Outside of releasing his albums and EPs, Slowthai has been working with many other artists since he began his music career. He was featured in songs like “Heaven Belongs To You”, “Momentary Bliss,” and “What’s Good” among others.
Personal Life
In February 2020 Slowthai won the NME Hero of the Year Award which was a great moment in his career. However the subsequent firestorm was quick and brutal, he was accused of se#ism for hitting on host Katherine Ryan.
He apologized and sent his award to Ryan who everyone seemed to think he had offended, despite the fact she tweeted out “he didn’t make me feel uncomfortable.”
Slowthai and Russian singer Katya Kischuk started dating in the Summer of 2020. Katya is popular for being a former member of “Serebro” a Russian girl group. The couple met online and then began their relationship. They welcomed their first child, a son in June 2021. However, their relationship didn’t last long and the two separated in December 2022.
