Early Life

Angelina Jordan Astar was born on January 10th, 2006, in Oslo, Norway. Her father Gerry Christian Slättman is a Petroleum Engineer and her mother Sara Astar is a housewife. Jordan grew up along with her younger sister, Juliette Slattman, who made her appearance in one of her music videos.

She is of Japanese and Iranian descent on her mother’s side and has Swedish ancestry from her father’s side. In terms of education, Jordan went to Oslo Waldorf School in the Vestre Holmen area.

In her free time, she took vocal classes from the after-school program known as the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts. Jordan discovered her passion for singing from an early age and started learning Violin, Piano, and Guitar.

Career

In 2014 Angelina got an opportunity to perform at the Nobel Peace Prize Show in Oslo. Before this, she was already performing at local and international events. Around that time she was 8 years old, Jordan auditioned for “Norway’s Got Talent” performing the song “Gloomy Sunday.”

The video of her audition went viral and earned her a lot of popularity all around the world. Additionally, she was featured in the posts of several magazines including, People, Time, and Daily Mirror. From that point on she continued to perform and many competitions on the show.

Jordan eventually won the show after performing George Gershwin’s song, “Summertime.” Later she gained even more fame when she performed “Fly Me to the Moon” on the popular TV show, “The  View.” Her performance allowed her to perform on several other television shows.

Breakthrough

In December 2014, Jordan released her there track EP, “My Christmas.” To promote the project she performed the tracks on several television shows. In the following year, she began recording songs for her upcoming extended play, “Angelina Jordan – The EP” which was released at the end of 2017.

Two of the songs including, “I Put a Spell on You” and “Back to Black” became successful. The music videos of the songs went viral, garnering over 5 million views. To upload the cover songs, she launched her second YouTube channel in 2017.

Angelina teamed up with Forsvarets stabsmusikkorps to release her debut studio album, “It’s Magic” in June 2018. They performed the full album on the following day which was attended by the Prime Minister of Norway.

Further Success

In late 2019 she went on to compete in “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” for its second season. The show began airing in early 2020. Angelina earned a “golden buzzer” from judge Heidi Klum after she sang Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” in her first appearance on the show.

The video of Jordan’s first performance has gone viral on YouTube, reaching over 76 million views within 3 years of its upload. She also caught the attention of the Rock Band, Queen.

In her second performance, she was given a standing ovation when she sang the Jazz version of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.” However, she was not able to get sufficient votes to enter the top five.

Other Ventures

After winning “Norway’s Got Talent,” Angelina has raised millions for children’s charities and environmental causes from all around the world. While traveling she became friends with a young shoeless girl and since then she is popular for performing barefoot.

Angelina had written a book entitled “Mellom to Hjerter (Between Two Hearts),” in which she shared her experience. After publishing the book she became the youngest author in Norway.
